What is your name?

Kayla Consalvo

What college did you attend?

Ramapo College of NJ for a Bachelors in English Literature and a 6-12 Teaching Certificate

William Paterson University for a Masters of Arts in English Literature.

What are the most valuable skills and experiences you gained through attending your college/university?

I learned the importance of making meaningful connections with other people, and how those connections can help you succeed in the future.

What was your favorite part of college/university?

Learning from experts in my field. I LOVED some of my college professors, and they have and will be my life-long mentors.

What is your current job or profession (if you have one)?

English Teacher at Northern Highlands Regional High School

How did the college prepare you for your career?

I would say that college prepared me for my career because it gave me the skills and knowledge I would need for teaching English in general, as well as learning about the foundations of teaching. I would say the MOST important thing was my student teaching experience. Ramapo paired me with an excellent teacher who helped mold me into the successful educator I am today.

How did Amy assist you in getting into your college/university?

Amy helped me narrow down the best college choice for me. She helped me choose a place that I would be able to achieve everything I wanted (i.e. get a degree in my subject area PLUS a teaching certificate, vs. just getting a degree in education and a concentration in English--This made me a very marketable hire).

What was one of the most memorable moments you had when working with Amy?

Amy deeply connects with her students -- I have kept in touch with Amy for years after being her student (circa 2009? 2010?) I will still often reach out to her for personal and career advice when the situation arises.

What was an important skill you gained from working with Amy?

An important skill I gained from working with Amy is that I CAN DO ANYTHING I PUT MY MIND TO! I no longer sell myself short because I know my potential and my worth thanks to Amy's guidance.

Any other comments?

Amy is the best!!
